Can high temperature flue tape in addition to 3 sheet metal screws be used on gas hot water heater vent pipe joints to ensure the joints don’t leak?

Why not fill the gap around the flue pipe joint with manifold sealant wheich will harden and remain in place especially if the joint is locked up with set screws as well.

Thanks – I hadn’t thought of using manifold sealant – I have used it on my car – it works there.
