i have a state direct vent water heater that decided today to start leaking badly. called local plumber and says it will cost about 450.00 for the heater..is this about right…the heater itself is almost 5 years old and i can’t find the documentation to check on the warranty period…any suggestions ???????

In the model number the second or third character will be a 5, 6, or 10. That is the warranty period in years. The serial number will have a letter and two numbers at the beginning. The letter is the month made=Jan: M=Dec, (they do not use i) and the number is the year. If it is after F95 then it is under warranty and any plumber and especially a factory authorized plumber can replace it for just the labor charges.
