Quote plumbing system by the “opening”

I have just started my plumbing company in The USA ( Indiana ) I have learned from my Grandpa to bid work off of the blueprints. Like looking at the job and getting a good idea of the time involved and the material for the job. I add the 2 numbers and there is my bid to the costomer. I hear a lot about bidding per the opening…How do I try to do this? Will it help me out? I dont do the same type of work as some plumbing companies in the area. A lot of plumbers are not really plumbers, they are scumbags. They dont vent anything..ect, ect, ect… well what should I think about bidding by the opening?

I never heard of that we just take off Fix. pipe and excavating put it in Comp. and it comes out. You got to put in fix.,pipe fitting and pipe, go to http://www.google.com and put in Plumbing Est. software.
