The toggle switch to drain the bath tub will not stay open so the water backs up in my tub and takes a long time to drain unless i stand there and hold it down. I assume I’ll need to replace the switch. Will this be an easy project? Any suggestions?

Sounds like it is woreout. Replace it. Go to http://www.plumbingpartsdepot.com and put in waste& overflow and they will show you drawing how it goes together. Let me know.
