came home one day to a horrible sewage like smell in basement from sump pump area. had not had much rain for a few weeks but we do have a sprinler system running daily. Does this mean sewage line is broken? or could it just be from stagnant water in sump? We pour about 8 gallons of water in the sump and smell isnt as noticible.

Is it for sewerage are drain tile water, is the lid tight, do you have a vent on it, if it is for sewerage then there should be a vent run seperate through the roof, sure vent is not connected into the Plbg. vents.
