my husband built a new house one year ago. all the systems are new (septic, plumbing, etc.). however, there is a sewer smell in the house that comes and goes. nobody seems to know what is causing this. the plumber says he thinks the vent needs to be extended because the odor is being sucked back into the house. does this sound resonable. if not what would be the next step in finding a solution to this problem? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

kj, I suggest that you read the last 3 inquiries to the MasterPlumbers.com Bulletin Board. All 3 discuss the issue of sewer gas odors from the venting system. If you do a search in the archives of this Bulletin Board, you will find many more inquiries and responses regarding this subject.
