I have a lift station in my home. A few years back, a crust formed towards the top of the lift station and blocked the float from turning the pump on. This caused backup when the laundry(which drains into the lift station) drained. Also, it appears that some grease was present.

Our basement commode and kitchen sink with its garbage disposal are also setup to discard raw sewage and other garbage into the lift station.

I’m wondering what kind of treatment or additive I could use to keep the station clean and prevent this from happening again.

        Thanks, Jim. [email protected]

James Sucomel. Most community based systems requiere a regular programm of cleaning & inspection.
Most private owners think that these systems are best forgotten, until they fail, then want to forget them again.
Jim. the best way is to regularly lift the lid & hose the pump & benches down.
