I have a lawn on hardpan or at least very hard clay soil with lots of rocks in it. Water drains off of the lawn, down the slopes and through a couple of berms on the corners of the front lawn (corner lot). I would like to control the drainage off the lawn at a couple of fixed positions away from the corner berms. The corner berms get saturated with water and nothing will grow there. I have dug a trench around the permiter of the lawn and it seems to really have helped dry the berms out. But, it is unsightly. I am thinking of putting in some kind of french drain. Does anyone out there know if this is just a waste of time or if this will do the trick? Any ideas or help will be appreciated

I think you need to talk to someone in the landscaping business.

I had this same problem on a home located on top of a hill with lots of fieldstone and clay present.
