When I use the shower in the 1st floor bathroom, a sewer gas smell permeates through the house. It seems to be coming from the shower drain. I have had that drain cleaned. We have run water from a hose down the vent stack for that bathroom and the water does back up rather than running into the sewer. The stack is not clogged from the roof straight down.
