I’m replacing a bathroom sink that also needs new PVC. It joins the threaded castiron drain pipe just inside the wall. There is plumbers puddy on the threads, is very old and will not budge. Is there a solvent that I can use to clean the PVC out of the castiron ?

Chemicals like acetone will work BUT they are slow and highly flamable and are dangerious.

Your much better off getting a TAP and retapping the threads.

You could also try using a wire brush after CAREFULLY heating the Cast Iron female threads.

The TAP is the best way to go. Good luck
