I need to replace the trap under my kitchen sink. What can I use as a sealer to prevent the trap pipe from leaking, when I install a new one?

If this is a DWV copper connection use any type of soft solder carefully.
If this is a PVC connection use Primmer and the proper solvent chemicals with plenty of ventilation
If this is a screwed connection use any type of pipe joint compound or Teflon paste or tape.

Or use the fittings in the packet when you buy the new trap
