We are constructing a courtyard in the front of our bungalow. The front lot slopes towards the road. The backyard slopes to a cement drainage ditch. To drain the front, is it better to run a pipe from the low point to the back ditch or use a dry well/French Drain. If the latter, can someone tell me how to construct it please?

pkaszuba, this is what I call “long distance” engineering. It is not possible to give you an accurate appraisal of the options available to you on this specific site without the benefit of a site visit. My advice is to contact a local engineering firm and set up a site visit to determine the appropriate approach to drain your courtyard. The engineer will prepare drawings of the system that he feels is most appropriate. JWA
