Hi,
We have a septic system in an area with high ground water and clay in the backyard where the tank is located. We are experiencing water spots and foul odors. We have tried several things to fix the problem (such as installing a new tank lower in the ground) without success. Recently someone suggested installing a drywell – could someone tell what a drywell does and if it might help our situation? Any other advice would also be appreciated!

A drywell is not going to solve your problem (and is most likely illegal). Lowering your septic tank was a wasted effort also. It sounds like you are going to need a lift pump and a Sand Mound System, But you had better contact someone in your area who is knowlagable in septic systems.
