        There is black dirt above my septic tank and the grass appears to be dying. Could this be the Septic system?
        If so what do I do about it?

          gwiest, Please describe the situation more completely. Provide additional information like the age of the septic system, the system design features, and general vicinity in which you live. Is the sewage surfacing in any area of your yard? What maintenance has the system received, and when was the septic tank sludge last pumped? I cannot, with any degree of confidence, respond to the posted inquiry. JWA
