We have planned an addition to our exisitng house. The footing/foundation of the new addition is within 7-10 feet of our septic tank. Does the national plumbing code specify a minimum distance between the septic tank and the house? Thanks.

Ed Stefanich,the setback distance of the septic tank to the house is controlled by the local regulatory agency, Sewage Disposal System Regulations. The minimum setback distances vary depending upon the jurisdiction in which you live. In Colorado, the State Standards prescribe a minimum setback distance of 5 feet, but some local, County Health Department regulations require 10 feet minimum setback. Check with the local controlling regulations. JWA
