I have heard that I can put a byass pipe by in between the return and feed of my 468 Weil Mclain to improve the creaking banging sound, will this help ?

Also the 2nd floor zone, it almost sounds like running water in the pipes, literally, I am guessing there is a lot of air trapped in the pipes, I have tried to purge it out from the bleeding valves next to the boiler but it keeps coming back. Wakes everyone up when the heat comes on in the A.M. after the temp kicks back up for the morning.

      bmac….

A bypass is installed to prevent dead heading of the pump when there are shut offs on the supply pipes such as an electric or pneumatic zone valve. Knocking can be caused by the over heating of water. If there is a lot of sediment in the boiler it will have less water near the flame and instead of heating several gallons there may be only a cup or two that allows the water to flash to steam and causing knocking and hammering – that is hard on equipment. If the pump is restricted or you have a worn impeller, that will move less water and allow over heating.

As for the air, I set the pressure high as I can go without blowing the relief valve (30 psi 0n most home units) so set less then that. This will make a yard of air in a pipe in to an inch or two and allow air to be forced through the system. If you can compress the bubble that is blocking the system it may circ to the air scoop.

Next summer, flush the system with house pressure – here it is 90 psi – It cleans a system out well.

      Hope this helps.
