I am having a problem with the Backflow Preventer on my heating system dripping. I had shutdown the water supply today to replace a broken hose bib. When I turned the water back on the dripping started, and it’s not a light drip, probably just under a gallon per hour! I shut off the supply to the boiler thinking this would stop it, but it just continues. Only way to get it to stop is at the main water shutoff. Is the valve bad? Will it need to be replaces?

Probably got something under the washer , it has to be taken apart and rebuilt, you can get parts from Plumbing supplyhouse, have name and serial #. of valve.

You could try and repair it but most of the time these are just replaced.
