I have a question about a drainpipe that has a smaller diameter pipe sitting inside a larger diameter pipe. The pipes are not tighted together with a ring. It appears that they may have been glued or sealed together in some other way and the seal is broken. CAn I put tape around where these two pipes come together? It does have a small leak.

I would not put tape around the pipes, you have sewer gas in the pipes tha comes out, you probably smell it and dont think about it, but it could harm you. They make bands for pipes like that, neasure ouside Diameter of each pipe and go to Plumbing supplyhouse and tell them and they will give you a band. I will send you a web site after this mail.
