MODEL #MI50S6DS13 50GALLON TANK: MY HOT WATER HEATER IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD, AND OUT OF NOWHERE I GET ONLY MAYBE 20 GALLONS OF HOT WATER. I REPLACED BOTH ELEMENTS THINKING THIS WAS THE PROBLEM, BUT IT’S NOT! COULD IT BE ONE OF THE THERMASTATS? AND IF NOT WHAT COULD IT BE? SEEMS LIKE I GOT A CRUMY HEATER TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH A 3 YEAR OLD HEATER.

Replace both the upper and lower thermostats at the same time.

The elements could of been checked with a continuity tester without removing them to see if they were faulty or not.

Call Bradford White, if it is 3 years old, it should be under warranty, parts included.

What should the element read if it is good? I assume that it will be an open circuit if it’s bad

I had the same problem with mine, I found out that my two element heater is designed to work “non-simultaneously” which means only one heater works at a time slowing down the recovery rate to half of what it should be.
