This is my “do the plumping” year. (Next year the electrical)
I had a new electric hot water heater installed about 6 months ago. The last one “blew out” (the front plate blew off and sparks and water shot out–while I was in the room!) after only 6 years. What what I have been reading here–I think I need to call and have it serviced every couple of years (drained to clean the sediment and have the sacrificial anode checked).
Am I reading this right? What do you all recommend?

I open drain on mine every 6 months to flush it out, about a minute. When the water seems to not behot then its time to take out bottom element and see if it is full of sluge, I use a wet vac with piece of garden tapped on end and suck it out. Make sure water is off and drained and electric is off.
