I’ve installed a new sink in my bathroom and the only problem I’m having is with the drain. I used Watts components available at Home Depot (22guage).

The leak seems to come from the nut that is used to tighten the pop-up assembly to the porcelain sink. I used plumbers putty around the flange that sink on the topside of the sink and made sure that I did not allow it to turn as I tightened the pop-up assembly and retaining nut. On the bottom of the sink, the pop-op assembly uses a tapered rubber washer and a plastic sleeve followed by the retaining nut. The leakage seems not to come from above the rubber washer, which makes sense because I did tighten it well. Water seems to seep past the retaining nut where the threads are.

Should tighten the retaining but more? I did NOT use any teflon tape or putty on the threads of the nut. Should I have? Could the pop-up assembly be faulty?

I should mention that I re-installed the pop-up four times and this problem has not been solved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks
      Al

The way you say the leak is comming from your tailpiec strainner. Put lots of puddy around flange and put some pipe dope on the puddy and install it and hold back with screw driver and tighten it good, let me know if it helps, also where rubber washer goes against bottom of bowl put a ring of puddy about 3/8 thick around the pipe tight against bowl and then washer and tighten it up.
