I replaced the diverter in both my baths and now the water won’t completely shut off to the tub when the shower is selected. This is happening in both baths. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

What brand name is the faucet, single handle or 3 handle w/diverter.
If this is a stem diverter, there is a possibility that debris might be at fault for this problem.
