leaking shower drain

I have a tiled shower (built early 70’s). The shower drain is leaking. Do I have any options other than ripping out the entire shower?

First open the ceiling below the drain to inspect to see if it is the drain for sure, or if the tile base is cracked and leaking.

Once you determine for sure what it is, find out what your options are from the plumbing point of view, or the tile repair point of view. Sometimes shower drain repairs are simple.
