I just installed a 40 gallon hot water tank today. I went to take a shower about 4 hours later and only had hot water for 5 minutes. Can someone give me some insight on this and explain to me why this may have happened. I even tried turning up the thermostat. Thanks.

If it is gas, you might of reversed the hot and colds and not realize, meaning, that the house pipes are wrong and they switched the dip tube on the tank on the tank before.

If electric, sounds like it is only heating at 110 instead of 220, and if it is a State water heater, you MUST tie black-blue-black (3) together as one, and yellow-white together.

You could also of pushed the dip tube down inside of the tank. GE (Rheem) is having problems with the dip tubes falling inside of the tanks.

Thanks. I just think it wasn’t full yet. It worked fine this morning. So, I’m really thinking that was the problem. Thanks for the info.
