I have a 1967 Elkay wall drain toilet that is installed in a half bath. The tank (thanks to the contractor that reinstalled it) now has a hairline crack running from the left bolt hole. Can it be repaired or do I have to try to find a replacement tank?

That cannot be repaired……the crack will continue to grow such as a windshield with a small crack going through temperature variances.

You can try but it sounds like the contractor inherited a problem.

Thing is, there is a good chance that years of strain of the bolts might have already created the crack, and therefore when the contractor tightened the assembly back down, made the crack grow unknowingly.

Years of stress at that opening most likely caused this situation.
