i need to identify the problem on a thermar instant demand hot water heater. the unit is about 15 yrs old and has had moderate use (single member household).

the problem probably began a few days ago when the water temperature appeared to be getting hotter. today the water became steamy and very brown and sputtered out of the sink faucet. the pilot light in the unit cut off. once the unit pilot was off, water ran cold through the unit. needless to say, the original manual is missing.

i need to identify the problem and find replacement parts.

any responders can contact me at [email protected] or on this bulletin board

Most likely, your accumulated heat exchanger dirt broke loose from a local hot spot and the high limit cut the pilot circuit. It is cleaning, flushing and resetting time. http://www.asapheat.com/myson/thermar/parts_srch_pm1000.asp
