My husband and I just bought a townhome a few months ago. He just used the guest bedroom shower the other night, and water began leaking from our dining room light fixture (located beneath the guest room shower).

He checked the drain in the shower, and there is standing water in it, so he said that it probably isn’t a leak in the pipe itself. We did find that there is NO SEAL around the pipe at all!

Do you think this could be the cause of all the water leaking from the ceiling? If so, what should we use to fill in the seal?

        Thanks for your help!

If it is a fiferglass shower most of them has a rubber doughnut that fits around the pipe and some have a screwed ring that fits in there to tighten down, some you just hammer it in, if it has a name on it go to Plumbing supplyhouse and ask them fpor the right ring.

Or you could dry up the mess and stop sending him to the guest room….

              Thanks for the advice.

We have a home warranty which supposedly covers pluming. They sent out a plumber and he assessed the situation as a “shower pan” issue.

The home warranty apparently doesn’t cover “shower pan” issues.

Would this really be considered a shower pan issue if its merely about replacing a seal??

Should we get a second opinion?

the guy also said the pipe was “installed wrong” and it was an “installation” issue.

All pipes in shower drains should have a funnel type system at the top of the pipe, and that it was installed wrong, and not up to code. Is this true that all pipes have to be that way? Why couldn’t it just simply be repaired with a seal??

I think they are trying to get out of covering this. Yes get another opinion.
