I am thinking about renovating my 2 bathrooms and I would like to know, given the sewage drainage is a different system, how difficult it is to relocate a toilet. Can it be done and if so, is it expensive or am I better off leaving it where it is.

If you have access from below the bathroom (i.e. a crawlspace or unfinished basement) you can more or less easily reroute the waste pipes. Plastic pipe and hubless Fernco fittings make this fairly easy. “Fairly” easy is a relative thing, however. You will need to know what you’re doing and have the proper tools. You may need to cut through and reframe the wooden structure. Furthermore, you can move the waste pipes only so far before you will need to consider modifying the vent system.

If you don’t have good access from below (say you are on a slab), your problems will be magnified.
