plastic (polypropylene) water heater drain valve broke off of Ruud water heater. The valve was not being
used, but broke off unexpectedly under normal water pressure. The plastic valve body appeared to be severely
deteriorated on the interior at the fracture. The water heater was manufactured in 1987. Have there been otehr such
failures? The valve manufacturer’s name is “Perfection”. -
To have the plastic valve last 12 years is good enough. Usually they have to be replaced with a brass one long before that. No recall, no liability after that many years of service.
