Our water is very alkaline and we have blue copper stains on our fixtures. Our house is three years old. I would like to know how to remove the copper stains and also if this is an indication that we will have trouble eith the copper pipes in the future. What can be done to protect the pipes? We have a water softner, but it has made no difference.

We have the same issue in our 3 month old house. The casue is excessive copper in your water. We had our water tested and the test returned and high level. From what I have learned, a water softner will make the issue worse. The root casue is from corrosion of the copper pipes casued by either a bad coppper pipe/fitting, a stray current from the water main electrical ground.
