I installed a Flotec FP7110T-08 pressure tank 8 months ago and after 3 months, a black residue seems to be coming from the tank. Water lines between pump and tank are clear, but lines between tank and softener are totally black, wit this slimey black residue. No surprise that my softener has stopped working, as I’m sure it’s clogged full of this black crap. Has anyone heard of this and is there a fix? I never had a problem with my previous WellTrol tank. Any feedback appreciated.

Slimey black is usually iron and/or manganese reducing bacteria. It produces a ‘sulfur’ odor. The bacteria live in the earth and come in with the water from the well. You may find the same slime in your water heater if you drain it. You may also develope a hot water only odor if your temp is below 140f.

Contact water treament dealers in yoru area for identification and cures.
