Remove a tub drain on a jacuzzi taub

I’m trying to remove a tub drain on my master bath tub. It’s the kind where you pull it up and twist to make it stay up. The builder showed me a way to remove the drain years ago by using channel locks to twist it out. I think he put it down first and then twisted the the cap until it came out. I can’t remember if it was counter-clockwise or not. If I twist clockwise, the top screws off the drain. Thanks.

Take the top off and put in channel locks in the cross arm and turn it counter clock wise. They make a tool for removing the strainer on the tub.
