        Hi,

The window in the bathroom is not sufficent as there is lot of mildew accumulated on the walls after a shower. This bathroom does not have a vent only a window. To install a vent need to cut open the roof, guess this rewquires an approval. Wondering how easy or difficult this is.

Also, can the same be done by using a fan that can be fixed to the window instead of making a hole in the roof. Appreciate any pointers, tips, rough cost estimates or suggestions. Thx

        Bob

That would work but put it in the top section of the window.

Agree with RP. Actually, the UPC and IRC do not require vents in bathrooms that have an openable window of normal size, but vents are still a good idea, as you have discovered. Furthermore, even if a window would provide sufficient moisture venting, most users are reluctant to keep them open in cold weather…

You can have a window exhaust fan installed, as RP says, at the TOP of the window, where it will do the best venting (warm moist air rises to the ceiling). Ideally, you’ll need to have electric brought to the fan via a GFI circuit. You really don’t want a long, ugly, and dangerous electric cord running to your fan in the window…
