I have a washer, 2 sinks and a toilet all along one cold water line on the ground floor. Whenever any of these fixtures use the cold water the pipe bangs and shakes when the water is turned off. The problem will go away for a few days when the system is drained but then returns. Do I need some kind of backflow preventer?

You probably have high press. and need a Pressure reducing valve installed in the line, also there might not be any air chambers on the fixtures so install a shock absorber in the line too.

Thank you. I will try that.

Check the water lines to make sure they are properly fastened down.

It was just loose pipes deep in the crawl space. Thanks for the help.
