I’m attempting to install a pedestal sink in a bathroom where there used to be an existing vanity/sink. The wall pipe drain line is 1.5 inch and all the drain piping I see for pedestal sinks is 1.25 inch. How do I connect the two without doing a lot of re-piping? Can I use some kind of reducer coupling? Unfortunately I threw out the old sink and connections long ago before I knew I had this issue – so I can’t see how it was done before.

Depends what kind of pipe is there. If it is pvc are abs you get a 1-1/2″ female glue end slip adapter and they have washers inside to adapt to the trap.

If the 1 1/2″pipe coming out of the wall has male threads ,just get an 1 1/2″ 1 1/4 ” slip nut with gasket and you are set to go
