This AM there was no water from the hot water faucet. Cold faucet fine. Water in heater is hot. Heater was making crackling noises the last couple months and is about 7 yrs old. Is a new heater the solution?

Is it only one faucet you get no HW at are is it all, if you have EL. heater it sounds like it is loaded with lime sediment take the lower element out and use a wet vac and suck it out, I take a piece of water hose and tape it to my vac hose and clean it out. If it is only one faucet then you might have some lime from heater in the pipe. Take supply to faucet apart and turn on water and see if you get any hot out.
