Just removed what was left of asbestos insulation and yes, obviously I’m still alive. Not too much steam heat left so I haven’t observed what is now being used to insulate low pressure steam pipes. It sure is getting hot in the basement!

The local plumbing supplier will be able to order preformed fiberglass insulation of the known pipe size. This comes split with a covering to glue to close the insulation around the pipe.
