A plumber just finished rerouting copper pipes from the slab up through the soffet between the first and second floor. To do so, he cored and ran soft 3/4″ copper through the middle of several 2 9 joists and beams. None of that concerns me, except for one joist that was notched from the bottom. The notch is 77.

The plumber says it is not load bearing and not to worry. Should I be worried? I am thinking of calling a city inspector out.

So, if it is there for any other purpose than to serve as a nailer for the ceiling below and the floor above (this is only a single joist)get a professional to correct the problem?
