I can hear water running in a wall that seperates the utilities and bath. If I shut off the water to the water heater, sound stops. No visible leaks or moisture. One of the hot water lines goes through the slab to the kitchen sink and dishwasher. 1) any way to test the pipe in the slab, 2) possibly the water heater is making the noise internally?

filbilly. sounds as though you have a burst water pipe either under the slab or in the vicinity.
