I am redoing my kitchen. I will add a dishwasher next to the sink. Currently there is no dishwasher. I will also add a garbage disposal to the single bowl sink. I currently have 1 1/2″ copper drainline. The city plan checker told me since I was adding the d/W, I have to put in 2″ drainline. I was going to do that but when I crawled under the house, I found that I have 1 1/2″ pipe all the way to the main soil stack, which is cast iron. I 2″ drain required by code? Can I argue with the city? I’d hate to have to re-plumb my entire drain system to do this. Any help is appreciated.

You will have to go with your local code, have him show you where it is in the code.In our code it calls for 2″ when dw & GD is used. They go by fix. units.
