I’m hearing a whistling sound coming from the water heater and my hot water has been extremely hot lately. Should I be worried? Is it a thermostat problem?? I’d appreciate any suggestions!

Your description would indicate that your thermostat has stuck in the “on” position and you are heating water continually which will eventually create steam so get it checked out and tested as soon as possible by a suitably qualified techinican or electrician.
