We have a sewer smell in the laundry room when water is run in the kitchen (but no where else in the house). At least 4 plumbers have looked for problems with traps to no avail and it isn’t coming from the drain in the floor. We had a leak detection company look for a leak in the vent system with smoke, found a toilet seal upstairs that was bad, replaced it with no improvement in the smell. Any ideas before I flush more money down the drain (so to speak)?
Check and see if the water seal (trap) is clean and working fine in the laundry tubs. If there is not one fitted to the outlet drain then fit one – the water seal in the trap is designed to prevent drain odors from seeping back up the drain pipes.
