What does the stirofoam bobber do on the pull chain in a Kohler toilet? The toilet seems to take a long time to complete the flush and water continues to flush. It seems like it is wasting water. Should I adjust the float up or down?

it times the flush so that the toilet flushes with 1.6 gallons of water ( more or less depending on water pressure) move it down the chain to increase the amount per flush, up to decrease
