Couple of days ago we found that we run out of hot water pretty quick – we have solar heater. It’s exactly the same now – no hot water after sunset. We can hear the noise (of running water..well, sort of; it sounds like water running in a pipe, probably louder) between the walls (?) with all taps closed and water meter is moving slowly. We suspect (but not sure) that we have a leak (between the walls ?) What is the best way to check it and/or find exact place of leaking ?

Andrei,
Usually leaks in walls make for wet walls. Is the wall wet? I suspect your leak is underground below the slab.
There is a tool that Licensed Plumbers have to help them detect underground water leaks. It is called an electronic pipe locater and leak detector. By listening to the water service pipes that supply each fixture a qualified person can determine which fixture the leak is near. Once determined the pipe is located and then the leak is located.
Good Luck,
Bill

Thank you, The LocalPlumber.
We looked between the walls today – no pipes, no water. Also no wet walls, no traces of any leak, but we are definetely losing hot water for the tank. Looks like we are going to have some fun ?

If you have a water meter shut off all the faucets in the house and look at the meter dial.
Then shut the water supply to the solar heater and see it it stops the meeter from moving. If it does then you can try to trace the lines and see the exact location GOOD LUCK

Please excuse Sylvan, you stated that you have a water meter.Sometimes he does not read too well.If the leak is under the slab, you might feel the slab and see where it is the hottest and start there looking for the leak.Good luck

Solar ……. Check the temp/pressure relief valve, it discharges down the roof and into the gutter most times. Would account that you can hear water running.
