My 10 year old house has what is
        called waterhammer noise.It stops
        when I open a faucet.I installed
a damper on the clothewasher hot
water line and it reduced the severity of it but is still there
mainly in the evening and morning.
How do I find the source of the noise.

gosh tom, it sounds like you have this problem all the time, not just when someone slams a faucet shut. one try is to check all your toilet ballcocks, even if you only see the ball barely vibrating this can be the source. pull the ball up and see if the noise goes away, if so replace the ballcock. if this dont help give more detailed info and ill reply after work
