Our toiet makes random flushing sounds throughout the day. The sound is similar to the end of the refill cycle as opposed to the initial flush sound. At first this only happened once or twice per day, now it occurs every hour or so. The toilet does not appear to be losing water.

The toilet is not losing water, the tank is. Replace the flapper on the bottom and also check that the small black refill tube is not inserted deeply into the overflow pipe.
