My 7 year old A. O. Smith hot water heater has started leaking from the top. It is seeping from inside at the cold connection. Water slowly seeps when the heater is running. There is no leaking at the fitting which can be seen on the outside. Leaking from the top only……no leaking elsewhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Marci, The piping from the water heater may be leaking. This is a problem because with a seven year old heater, when it is disturbed at this location it may leak more.
My suggestion is to have the piping replaced from the heater, usually a brass pipe. Be prepared for this to be an unrepairable leak which means the water heater may need to be replaced.
          Good Luck,
          Bill
