I have a leak in the main line between the stopbox and the house on a rental property. I am considering replacing it myself. I have quite a bit of experience replacing pipes and doing plumbing repairs on my own house and some rental properties. I am considering renting a small backhoe from HOme Depot, digging up the stopbox, digging a trench to the house and replacing the existing lead line with copper. Does this seem like a feasible plan? Is there a better option? I know people sometimes pull the new line through the ground by attaching it to the old line. The old line makes a 90 degree turn just after it exits the building and then runs relatively straight to the stopbox. Any comments?
