Need to rip out a bath tub and make it a full shower with a curb and a bench. Should I build the bench prior to setting the shower pan? The bench will be studs, plywood and tile backer gypsum and tiled with the rest of the shower. Are there standard shower pan sizes that will determine the size of the bench I can build? Will the drain holes line up?

What am I not taking into consideration??

        THANKS!

Minimum shower area in most decent codes is 30″ 30″ or 900 Sq. inches.

When going from a bath (11/2″ waste connection) to a shower (2″) drain connection you had better make sure you have a 2″ connection available

When in doubt about the size of the bench you can check the ADA or Barrier free design code.

There are some pre-manufactured models you can also look into.
