I know it’s relatively inexpensive to buy a new disposal unit but the only thing wrong with mine is that one of the two free-rotating metal hammers that mash the food has broken.

I see that new models have these two hammers (pls excuse the terminology if incorrect) permanently attached. However, on my model they have keyhole shaped slots that slip over fixed posts on the rotating disk and are thus easy to remove/replace.

Does anyone have a source for replacement hammers? Or do I need to break down and buy a new unit?

        Thanks in advance.

You would have to buy a new disc with the hammers installed. By the time you disassembled the disposer and replaced the part, you would have as much time invested as a new disposer would cost. In addition, you may damage the motor seal, might not get the body joint sealed, or the body itself may be worn like most are by the time they need repair.
